Email Setup FAQ’s

Outlook

The following is a walk-through for setting up Outlook Express.

Go to Tools -> Accounts… -> Add…

  • Display Name: Usually your name
  • Email Address: Full email address (ir, you@yourdomain.com)
  • My incoming mail server is a [POP3 or IMAP] Server.
  • Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, HTTP) server: mail.yourdomain.com
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server: mail.yourdomain.com (or your ISP outgoing SMTP server settings)
  • Account Name: Your full email address (ie, you@yourdomain.com)
  • Password: Your e-mail account password
  • Log in Using Secure Password Authentication is NOT checked.

Click Next and Finished.

Click Properties -> Servers Tab.

Make sure ‘My Server requires authentication’ IS checked ON if you’re using our SMTP Server settings. Otherwise contact your ISP.

Click Apply, OK, OK.

The last step would be to test the e-mail account. If it does not work, try your ISP settings for sending e-mail.

Go to Tools -> Email Accounts -> Add a new e-mail account -> Then select POP3 or IMAP.

User Information:

  • Your Name: [as you wish]
  • E-mail address: [you@yourdomain.com]

Server Information:

  • Incoming mail server (POP3): mail.yourdomain.com
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com (or your ISPs SMTP Server settings)

Logon Information:

  • User Name: full email address (example: you@yourdomain.com)
  • Password: email account password
  • Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT checked.

Click More Settings … -> Outgoing Server Tab.

  • My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ IS checked.

(use same settings as…) is checked. (NOTE: not all ISP allow you to use SMTP servers that are not their own, so you may be required to use the settings for sending email they provide.)

Click ‘OK’ and you’re finished.

If you want the port settings for the Advanced tab in the settings, the standard ports are usually already filled in and work fine without changes; port 25 for SMTP, port 110 for POP, port 143 for IMAP. Your server may also have an alternate port 26 or 587 open for SMTP if your ISP blocks port 25.

  • Outlook for mac is a powerful tool for managing your e-mail, contacts, calendars, and tasks. To use it most effectively, you first have to understand the basics. This tutorial from Microsoft introduces some of the tasks and features that you will use most often.

    Exporting .olm for Outlook:mac

We have a tutorial on how to export mail, calendar and contact information into a .pst file for Windows users, but many Mac users on Outlook 2011 are asking how to export the data from Outlook on their macs.

Well here is the walk through.

    1. First while viewing Outlook. Choose File > Export from the system bar.

    2. On the first screen you will choose the options of what you would like to export. (Calendar, Mail, Contacts, etc.)

On the lower right of the popup you will notice arrows for advancing once you have selected the items to export.

    3. On the next screen you will be asked if you would like to have the items deleted from outlook once the export process has completed. This is your choice.

    4. Once this choice is made you will be prompted for a location to save the data file to. This will be saved as a .olm file. Similar to .pst only for MAC OS and not Windows.

    5. Once you specify and click save, the export process will start.

    6. If you would like to Import a .pst or .olm file you would repeat similar process starting with Import on the File from the system bar.

Before starting anything a backup the PST must be taken. There is no exception to this rule.
